CORE ALIGNMENT ... A Prayer for 2016

It has been so good to be home for Christmas and now for these final days of 2015.

As I traveled from Ethiopia to Ohio last week, I began to reflect on lessons learned over this past year and I continued to think about that since being home.

What were my biggest struggles in 2015?  Where had been my greatest joy? Life has many highs, lows, mountains, and valleys …. what had God taught me?

How could I improve in the New Year, 2016?

What God has kept bringing to my heart and mind as I have reflected is the importance of what I’m calling core alignment.”

What do I mean by “core alignment?”

The core is the central and most important part of something… which if you’re a follower of Jesus- the core of who you are should be a relationship with God made possible through Jesus Christ.

Alignment is proper positioning of something.

So I understand core alignment to be the proper place of my relationship with God in my life.

Is God my source, am I aligned with His heart, His will, His purpose? And can people see that connection in me, through me?

What is the source that I draw my identity and confidence from?  Is God still the One who gives me ultimate security, confidence, leadership and the love that I desire and long for? Or am I looking to myself or to other things, people, to fill that in my life?

I have to watch out for misalignment!

I don’t know about anyone else but I’m well aware that time is passing and I so much want to be at my best in all areas for God.  As I get older, I want to get better with age … to represent God the best I can where He has me. I want to be better in this coming year, than this past year. I want to be better today than I was yesterday. I don’t want to keep falling in the same holes or running down the same wrong paths. I want to look and sound more like Jesus as I run toward Him and toward home.

A huge core misalignment, actually a CORE BREAK- happened long ago in the Garden of Eden. Disobedience – sin- completely broke our ability to connect our core to the only source of true joy, peace, healing, security, love- God Himself.

And ever since that break, people have felt that disconnect and have sought security, confidence, healing, and love in other things rather than God. Religions have stepped in and said do this or do that to have your core realigned with God and to feel good about yourself again.

But NOTHING you do or buy can remedy your connection-core problem. But thankfully, God didn’t leave that as the end to our story.

A core realignment with God was not possible until Jesus was born and gave us His connection. Thanks so much Jesus for coming!!!  That’s why many just celebrated Christmas, that a Savior and Redeemer came and gave His life for ours, He paid for our connection back to God!  Amazing!

John 3:16
God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.

Romans 3:23-24
All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God- but can be justified freely by God’s grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

Hebrews 7:24
Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant…. Jesus is able to save completely those who come to God through Him, because He always lives to intercede for them

Now throughout the history of the people of God, there seems to have been alignment issues. And I believe one reason their story was written was to remind us to be careful of the same problem happening to us…

Malachi 3:7
Ever since the time of your forefathers you have turned away from my decrees and have not kept them…

Jeremiah 3:32
My people have forgotten me …

Deuteronomy 9:7
From the day you left Egypt until now, you have been rebellious against me ….

Those with proper alignment with God have something that is noticeable. It’s not the latest clothes or biggest car or flashiest smile. It’s a an inner glow- a shine- that radiates from a connection with God … a joy, a peace, a confidence that reflects God Himself.  It’s good salt. It’s flavoring. It looks different, sounds different, acts different.

On Christmas Eve at church, one of our pastors talked about this kind of “shine.” And how our light should stand out in the crowd.  And it’s not a flash of light that is sometimes on or sometimes off, but it should be constant source of light that can guide others to the source of salvation, Jesus.

Yet it seems that in many churches globally today … lights seem to be dimming, flickering or are being turned off. These beacons of light- ones of truth, justice, mercy, and unconditional love have been clouded or snuffed out by arguments, scandal, and apathy. It’s a core alignment issue of leadership and churches. We dig own cisterns- draw our vision, our purpose, our identity, our path from things other than God. We often “do church” without inviting God in or to lead.

Now, you might be agreeing with me. You might say, yes- churches have issues. But remember,
WE are the church. Each of us have to keep a check on our core alignment. If there’s unhealth or misalignment in one of us, it affects us all of us. We are one.

1 Corinthians 12:12-30
Now the body is not made up of one part but of many… now you are the body of Christ… there should be no division in the body, but all parts should have equal concern for each other. If one part suffers, every part suffers ….

You might say, Holly- I agree. There’s misalignment in churches and individuals. But as for me, I’m okay.

Well, let’s check….

How do you know if your core is misaligned? Here are some questions or things to think through…

Are you insecure in some area of your life that drives you to some source that isn’t God?

Maybe it’s your job. Maybe you feel inferior or misunderstood. So you often change your appearance to gain more respect or to feel more secure.

Maybe it’s your appearance. Maybe you struggle with some pounds/kilos that you can’t seem to get off. So that drives you to unhealthy eating choices- maybe fasting, or fad diets, or an eating disorder, or too much time at the gym- to try to feel better about yourself.

Maybe you feel lonely. So you look to friends or other people in your life to be there for you. When you reach for them and they don’t do or say what you need them too- you feel deep disappointment and depression sets in.

Maybe you don’t know your life purpose or you’re mad about where your life is at right now. So you often try to escape.  You always watch movies or spend time on facebook to enter other peoples’ lives and stories to escape from the reality of your own.

Those are all alignment issues. We all have them.

If your alignment is off, you’ll feel it. And those around you will often pick up on it.

Your words and actions can also reveal a misalignment. What do others hear from your words or understand by your actions?

You reflect what you look at or listen to. If your source of comfort or peace is money or power, your words and actions will reflect that. If it’s yourself, that will show.

Is your speech salted with holiness, truth, love, and the mercy of God? Or are there bouts of profanity, rage, condemnation, negativity and judgment? That shows an alignment issue.  A core source problem.

You can ask your friends and family to tell you what they hear from your words.

What do your actions say to others about your life?

Are those actions spurned from a deep connection and reliance on God? Or does it show a connection or unhealthy dependence on something else?  This is where “the church” has run into big problems as far as witness. Words might sound good and holy, but actions do not. There is not a solid message on all channels that people are seeing and hearing when they observe our lives.

James 3:9-12
With the tongue, we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth comes praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. Can both fresh water and salt water from the same spring?

I think some key sources we tend to go to other than God is:

1.       Ourself

2.       Our culture’s definition of success (money, power, position)

3.       Other people (maybe a husband, wife, boyfriend/girlfriend, children)

4.       Idols (anything or anyone you give worth too more than God)

5.       Sin (darkness can be a dangerous draw/attraction- living on the edge, dabbling in danger…etc)

If we are misaligned, I think there are some common ways that people tend to respond. I’ve done some of these myself or have seen these happen in others’ lives…

1.       We ignore it.  We just never deal with the misalignment we feel.

2.       We make ourselves busy- give ourselves distractions from the unhealthiness.

3.       We try to fix it ourselves. We self-medicate, go to doctors or psychiatrists, search google or self- help books for cures.

4.       Or we just accept the insecurity, the doubt, the unhealthy habit as life. Something we have to always live with. We recognize it’s there, but make excuses to leave it there.

I believe misalignment is what Satan wants. Our power connection is disrupted. This misalignment can eventually make all of our lives unhealthy and insecure.  Satan knows if we’re disconnected- misaligned- that our purpose is disrupted.  He knows if we’re connected to God and to each other, we’re unstoppable.

I think some things God wants us to remember is that …

1.       Prayer is where realignment starts- and is kept straight

2.       We need each other to keep aligned, God made us for relationship with Him, and others.

3.       Others need to see God reflected in our lives, it’s part of why He made us, to reflect His glory and His love to the world.

The New Year challenge I have for myself and for you is ….

1.       Check for Misalignment

2.       Repent for any Misalignment

3.       Return to God

He is ready to take you back and align you with Him!

Isaiah 44:22
I have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist. Return to me, for I have redeemed you.

Malachi 3:7
Return to me and I will return to you

Acts 3:19
Repent then and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out and times of refreshing come

2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and heal their land.

May we be His People, His Light in the World in the Coming Year!

A song I’ve been so encouraged by is a song by Danny Gokey called Tell Your Heart to Beat Again

God is able to align any misalignment, no matter how big it is …

Isaiah 43:18-19
Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert, streams in the wasteland.

Philippians 1:6
…He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion …

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your understanding, In all your ways submit to Him and He will make your path straight

BLESSINGS to YOU for 2016! May it be our greatest year yet for our God!

I’m so grateful for Each of You!

THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR... A Christmas Reflection

One week from today I will get to travel home for the Christmas holiday.

For me, living and working in Ethiopia, in 70 degree weather and largely sunny and blue skies without much variance, it’s exciting to think about that soon it will feel more like Christmas. (Maybe- if the weather changes in Ohio….it’s warm there now). This is the only decoration I have up now. ...

So to put on a coat, see Christmas lights and Christmas trees, to hear Christmas music in stores, to drink hot chocolate, these things “feel” like Christmas time.

Many say Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year and in so many ways, I have to agree.

People seem more generous as they shop for perfect gifts for friends and family.

And the reality of the greatest gift ever given seems more largely in focus- as manger scenes adorn the front lawns of people’s homes and JESUS is the theme of all major plays and musical productions at this time.

What is the most wonderful time of the year for you? Is it Christmas?

Why do people celebrate Christmas or enjoy it?

Is it the presents? The time off work? Or just the holiday spirit?

May we not forget the biggest reason we have to celebrate…

Our God came here. Amazing!!!

Every time I see a donkey in my area, I’m incredulous to think that the God of the universe sat on one of those. That He humbled himself and entered His own creation, His own story, so a redeemer, a Savior, could be known, could be embraced.

Jesus came and walked our streets, experienced and battled the elements, faced temptation, and felt deep in Him the war that rages between flesh and spirit.

He learned obedience and experienced grief, rejection, and sacrifice.

He also knew joy and laughter and friendship. He loved well and served well.

His life, though ending before his 35th birthday, changed everything for all of us!

He gave all of Himself so we can live and have our sin paid for!

May we take time in the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season, to remember the amazing fact… that a Savior was born and still lives to give us life!

He is our Merciful High Priest and soon coming King! This is the reason we have to celebrate.

And the greatest gift we can give to someone else- is the news of Him!

Luke 2:10-11
Do not be afraid.  I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; He is Christ the Lord…

May we celebrate Jesus during this most wonderful time of the year and every day of our lives!

Remembering Him today and always!

Blessed Christmas and holiday season to each of you!

Prayer Requests… Please Pray….

-for my Hope College students- as I give mid-term exams this week and listen to speeches, that God will bless and keep these students in Him

-for a new business visa and work permit that I need to push through the Ethiopian Embassy while I’m home- that God will give speed and favor on that

-for a training this Thursday I’m giving for Hope fellowship students who are small group leaders, that God will bless this time

-for my way ahead in Ethiopia in the new year, that He will help me make these days the greatest for Him

Thanks so much for your prayers!

October Days and the Cross

I always loved the month of October in the USA. Temperatures tended to drop some. Colors exploded on trees. There was hot chocolate with whipped cream and apple crisp and bonfires and chilly evenings. College football of course continued with jackets and blue jeans as the attire. Blankets at soccer games. Such a fun time.

Here in Ethiopia- it's been a windy and sunny October so far. And so very busy. Colors are spectacular in the fields and on the mountains. The sunsets and sunrises breathtaking.

But the thing that God has been causing me to notice more and more in recent days have been crosses- they are every where here. On necklaces and bracelets, on bumber stickers and gates, on the top of churches.

I'm constantly seeing a cross- and for me- I've been grateful for these reminders because they've helped me to remember some key things about my identity.  And in the busyness of the fall season, I've needed the reminders.

God has been saying these things to me about the cross...

The cross is where connection happens....It's a vertical and horizontal place. Where vertically first, you connect with God- then horizontally you connect with others. If you live your life and forget to connect with God first- then you can't extend what He has for you to give others. Don't forget to connect with Him!

John 15
Remain in me, apart from me you can do nothing...

The cross is also a place of surrender. Often- we don't like to give up our own way. But to get on the cross daily- to assume that position- is a trust move- a surrender of will. Jesus did it- saying not my will but yours be done. And we're called to also daily surrender our will. To allow leadership of our lives to be in the hands of God. Not easy. But so rewarding if we continue to allow God to lead us.
There's a humility in that surrender that God backs with His power and His blessing.

Matthew 10:38-39
Anyone who does not take up his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

The cross is also a place where you are willing to suffer. To put others first and be last in line. To live among the least of these or the greatest- with the goal of showing them a Savior's sacrificial love. We are to lay down our lives for God and others. To give a coat if our one is taken. To go with a person the extra mile, even our enemies. To be willing to go to the hard places of brokenness to give hope. We often don't like to see or touch brokenness. We like to live insulated from pain and suffering. But God calls us to share His love in all the places of the world and to be willing to touch the leper, have coffee with the outcast, and tell them about a friend, a Savior, a King who offers new life.

John 15:12-13
Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.

God also has had me thinking the position of Jesus' hands on the cross. They were open and nailed. We need to make sure we're living with our hands open. We shouldn't cling to things, which we often do. We often take what we want and say "mine." And we don't let go- holding on.  God wants us to keep our hands open. We must realize He gives and He takes away. We can't hold on to anything too tightly except to Him. May God help us!

Job 1:21
The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away. May the name of the Lord be praised.

Philippians 3:7-8
But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ...I consider all things a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things

May our lives show a cross, one where death of ourselves has met life in Christ. A cross that we carry and position ourselves on out of love for our Savior who died there so we could live.

May others see a Savior's love and grace in my words and actions!
Please pray this for me!

AN ETHIOPIAN NEW YEAR PRAYER ... Make Me Brave

I just watched the last sunrise of a year here in Ethiopia a few hours ago.  It was beautiful and hinted of great promises for a new year.

Today is the last calendar day of Ethiopia’s 2007. Tomorrow, 2008 begins.

I like the calendar that Ethiopia follows because it makes me younger. J

The end of one year and the beginning of another always brings the opportunity to reflect and to look ahead.

Looking back at my 2007 year here in Ethiopia, I feel very grateful for God with me. Even through falls and hard climbs, God has proven time and again that His hand is in mine and He will go with me through it all. He wants first place in my heart and in my focus. For only then can I be most effective and healthy in everything else.

There seems to constantly be a battle within or around me- reminding me of the falls vs the victories as I continue here. It’s probably my enemy (the enemy of us all) whispering the same words- you’ll fall again, Holly. You won’t recover. You can’t do that great feat or that one for God. You can’t make it to the top again.

But then I hear God’s louder voice saying- just look back Holly. You’ve gotten up every time. With me, you can rise. You can have victory.  I’m so grateful for God’s louder voice!

My sister Noel, a hero of mine in life and faith, has been praying hard for me as I have started a new teaching semester here. One of her favorite songs that she shared with me is:  “You Make Me Brave” by Amanda Cook. Noel always texts me before my classes and says: “God will make you brave.”

And God does!!!

Here are my new classes at the Evangelical Theology College…

My Intro to Missions Class

My Intro to Youth Ministry Class

My Communication Class
Whatever comes in this next year here in Ethiopia, I pray for courage. That God will be my strength in weakness. That I will live better and stronger for Him and that my life will count for the kingdom in a big way. That God will make me brave!

Please pray these things for me and that I can keep these verses in mind…

Philippians 1:6
Be confident of this, He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

2 Corinthians 12:10
My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.

Isaiah 40:28-31
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and His understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Zechariah 4:6
Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit says the Lord

Hebrews 10:39
We are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved.

Happy New Year Ethiopia, 2008! (tomorrow- September 12, 2015)!
I’m humbled and grateful for the privilege to be part of you!!!

Prayer Requests
-For the new year, 2008, here in Ethiopia- that it will be my best year yet for God

-For my Bible college classes- that God will be give me wisdom and discernment in teaching three nights a week.

-For Hope College, which will be begin in the coming weeks, that I can manage the day time teaching and that God will give me great opportunities in my classes and outside of my classes to share God’s love.

-For my sister Noel- helping out our Missions Program at Ginghamsburg Church, while also getting ready for a longer trip back into South Sudan in October- that God will give her courage, health, and continued opportunities to serve and share her experiences and wisdom

-For my parents- that God will continue to bless them as they bless others. They’re the best!

Thanks again so much for your prayers!  Blessed Fall Season to Everyone!

A BLANK PAGE ...

Have you ever wished you had a chance to do something over? That you could go back into a moment or season and change a decision or words spoken? Maybe that you had a blank page to re-write a chapter or a page in your life?

These things questions were on my mind this morning.

Today begins a new teaching school year for me. My seminary classes kick off this evening. And for me- it feels like I'm staring at a big white wonderful blank page. A new semester of stories will be written in the months ahead. I'm excited.  What a privilege it is to continue teaching here in Ethiopia!

The past few days, I've enjoyed seeing teachers posting pictures of their classrooms being decorated. And of parents posting pictures of their kids heading off to their first day of school.  Lots of blank pages and stories to be written.  I've smiled so much.

Many times in life though, it seems we often look back instead of forward. We're reminded of the pages already written in our lives. We all have history, both good and bad. Mistakes are there. Maybe regret. But- it doesn't have to define our now or discourage us from moving into a new season and chapter, beginning on a new blank page.

Every day is a blessing. A blank page. A new chance to live well and better in honor of God.

He is with us and can help us to experience amazing new places, new beginnings, and new depths in our relationship with Him!

One of the greatest pastors I know, Mike Bowie, used to say all the time: "life's setbacks can become God's set-ups for incredible comebacks."  And I agree. Old chapters or pages of our life can't be erased or forgotten. But those times can be viewed as part of our redeemed storyline and our testimony. When our minds drift there- we can feel gratitude and humility instead of guilt.

God is the author and the finisher of our life story, what a great God we have! He is about redeeming us and carrying us through every season. The storms and trials we face can actually sharpen and strengthen us and our dependency on Him.

May this new school year, each day, each blank page I'm given- be lived better than the day before, in honor of God.  This is my new school year prayer.

As it begins, I'm keeping these verses in mind...

Lamentations 3:23
Because of His great love for us we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning...

Isaiah 43:18-19
Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.

Isaiah 54
Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back...do not be afraid, you will not suffer shame... For your Maker is your husband- the Lord Almighty is His Name...In righteousness you will be established....No weapon formed against you will prevail. ...This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord...

So grateful to be on the journey with God. And with so many of you!
Onward!

Praises/Prayer Requests
-I had a wonderful short few weeks home with my family and returned safely back to Ethiopia over this past weekend. Thanks to everyone who prayed for that and supported my trip.
-Please keep my seminary classes in prayer as I teach two courses this semester, beginning tonight- a Communication course and an Intro to Youth Ministry course.
-As Hope College is now on break time, please pray for our staff as we get organized for a new semester starting in late September and that I can use the break time to connect on a deeper level with students.
-Please keep my family in prayer- I love my tribe.
-Please keep praying for the global church- and for this deep call to prayer that many are feeling led to take.  That a revival will happen in churches, families and in individual lives!

RETURNING...

I traveled out of Ethiopia last week for some time of rest with my family in the US.  There was a mix of excitement and anticipation as I boarded planes to return home. What would look different? How had things changed? How had I changed?

Seasons change us. Mountain climbs or valleys passed through sometimes leave increased muscle, other times- scars.

What had I learned from all I had passed through over the past several months in Ethiopia?  What had God taught me?

Definitely my clothes were ripped and jacket wrinkled. My shoes were barely holding together.

But I hoped that spiritually, there was increased depth, increased humility, and increased dependency on God that would be evident in my words and my actions.

In Washington, the passport control guy asked me many questions.  Finally he stamped my passport, and then said “welcome home.”  That moment always brings tears to my eyes and gratitude to my heart and it did again.

I was still getting choked up thinking about those words as I was re-routed through Chicago then on to Dayton.

I was thinking about how far we often travel away from God or get off course and how God STILL continues to say- return to me, return home, I’m here. I accept you back. My arms are open.

What an amazing, gracious, loving God we serve!

These were verses He led me to read as I traveled …

Hosea 14
Return …I will heal your waywardness and love you freely…for my anger has turned away from you…

Job 22:23
If you return to the Almighty, you will be restored…

Isaiah 44:22
I have swept away your offenses…Return to me, for I have redeemed you…

Isaiah 51:11
The ransomed of the Lord will return. They will enter Zion with singing. Gladness and joy will overtake them. And sorrow and sighing will fade away.

Jeremiah 3
Return…, I will frown on you no longer, for I am merciful. Only acknowledge your guilt. Return, for I am your husband. I will choose you. I will cure you of your backsliding...Return…

Jeremiah 24
I will build them up, I will plant them, I will give them a heart to know me, they will be my people and I will be their God…

Hosea 6
Come let us return to the Lord…He has torn us to pieces, but He will heal us. He has injured us, but He will bind up our wounds…

Joel 2:12-13
Even now, return to me with all your heart… Rend your heart… Return to the Lord your God…for He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and He relents from sending calamity…

Zechariah 1:3
Return to me and I will return to you….

I’m so grateful, God takes us back.

And this theme of returning to God has continued to come into focus since being home.

My heart had been troubled the past several months watching from a distance things going on in the US.  My students would even ask me about it. What is going on with America? There are theater shootings, outbreaks of racism, so much. It seemed we were moving farther and farther away from reflecting a culture that respects and honors God in our laws and our relationships with each other.

I have been encouraged since being here to hear that so many people are feeling called to a season of prayer as a plan of action. For with God alone and His leadership- can there be wisdom and direction, healing and restoration.

2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

1 Thessalonians 5:17
Pray continually…

We need to recognize and remember there is a battle going on for our country, our family and friends, our very lives. And we must seek God to help us.

Ephesians 6
Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in heavenly realms.

John 10:10
The thief comes to steal, kill and destroy. But I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.

A new movie coming out this month called “War Room” and some books that go along with it, I highly recommend for families, small groups, business Bible studies, and churches to check out….

I've been encouraged and challenged by these books so far. Here are some of my favorite quotes and notes so far….

“This is war- the fight of your life. A very real enemy has been strategizing and scheming against you- assaulting you- coming after your emotions, your mind, your relationships, your future.”

“We don’t have the luxury of taking prayer lightly. Not if we want to be free from whatever is keeping us held down or held back.”

“Praying with precision is key.”

“The battle your enemy wages against you- is crafted with an intimate knowledge of who you are and the precise pressure points what you can most easily be taken down.”

“Satan wants to see you passionless, prayerless, quiet.”

Ten Common Strategies Satan Will Attack Against…
-your passion, your focus, your identity, your family, your confidence, your calling, your purity, your rest and contentment, your heart, your relationships.”

There’s also a challenge to have a “war room” in your office or house or church, where together with others in your family or team, you seek the face of God together.

What is keeping you from FULLY returning to God? Is it pride? Distractions? Fear if He will take you back or not?

God says: RETURN.  Come back to me. I accept you. I’m ready to lead your life.  Turn from what is holding you back or away from me. Seek me first. Trust my leadership.

This invitation remains OPEN.

Jesus died and rose with victory for us. The end has already been written. We don’t have to live in defeat or cycles of depravity.

But our lives MUST be lived in intimate partnership with God, trusting His leadership in our relationships, our churches, our country.

Battles are waging to take us out for good. To ruin us. Our relationships. Our families. Our work. Our communities. The world.

Please join me in a season of prayer in the days, months ahead!  There is victory in prayer, for ALL that we face.

Let me know how I can specifically pray for you.

Onward with His leadership!

Prayer Requests
-Please pray for my short time at home in the USA- that I can get the rest I need and also spend good quality time with my family. It’s been fantastic so far.

-I’m already beginning to pack and plan for my return to Ethiopia. Please pray for a good transition time back. And as I begin teaching again, first at the seminary in late August, and later in September at the college, that God will bless the new school year with opportunities to share Jesus.

-Please keep my sister, Noel, in prayer too as she helps our home church strategize about our projects in South Sudan and Sudan and pray for her as she prepares to return there.

-Please pray for America: our churches, families, and the upcoming presidential election- that prayer will be a driving force of change for the days to come.

-Let's be in prayer for churches globally, that we all will be called to a deeper place of prayer for our world and that God will raise us up represent Him well.

Thanks again so much for those of you who gave financially and those who prayed for my return home for this break time. So grateful to be on the journey with you!!!

Blessed fall season to you. Please keep in touch.

In Christ’s Love and Strength,
Holly
